Thrill Seekers

As I sit in the warmth of my room this snowy morning, I can't help but think about summer... hot sun, wearing shorts, and... roller coasters. Growing up, my brothers and I would go to Six Flags all the time - that was all well and good - but we began to long for more thrills... bigger coasters... more speed!

Are We Admirers, or Disciples of Jesus?

I recently heard a story about a pastor and his brother, who is a lawyer (this really is a story, it’s not about my family, I promise!). The pastor asked for his brother’s legal advice concerning some project the parish was doing around pro-life issues. The lawyer refused to help. “It would be bad for my reputation… I have political allies, and I cannot go against them! I want to go somewhere politically, and I don’t want to jeopardize that!”
The pastor then challenged his brother asking if he was a follower of Jesus. “I follow Jesus up to a point,” he replied.

Die... only to Rise Again...

I love watching the trees explode in all the different autumn colors... reds, golds, oranges and browns... it's awesome to see the beauty of God's creation. But, it also reminds me that it only leads to the trees looking as if they were dead - leaf-less, life-less for the long months of winter.

That beauty leads to a type of death - but, looking even further ahead - I get excited for the blossoms of spring, and the new life and resurrection it represents.

We can experience the death of a loved one, and it can be very difficult for us - but we can take comfort in the promise of Jesus, "I am the resurrection and the life, whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live forever." Read more »
