New Shoes

Katie Lucchesi's picture

It’s time for some new shoes.

I don’t know about you but when I was little when August would roll around it meant 2 things… back to school and back to school SHOPPING! Now I went to a Catholic grade school and high school and therefore since shopping for clothes wasn’t really an option, I looked forward to getting brand new tennis shoes. I continuously purchased the same type of tennis shoes… Adidas Osweego… the only change, different color each year.   Read more »

Graduating is Scary

Katie Lucchesi's picture

The end of the school year is just a few short weeks away, which, in my life means that graduation and the real world are to follow immediately. This past weekend's gospel made me realize what it means to actually 'leave' someone/something you love. But it also reminded me how no matter where physically Christ is, he is always present with us and even as he was leaving his disciples, he promised to send them an ‘advocate’ to always be present with them. Maybe it’s just me, but I related this aspect of the gospel to my leaving SLU this upcoming May. Read more »

Today, I think I'll go be a King

Katie Lucchesi's picture

Sometimes you have to stop and wonder… what was it like to go and see that baby in the manger? How awesome of an experience could that have been for those kings? You wait and you wait and then after a long journey, you see that light, that star that you’ve been searching for. And behind that star is beauty beyond words. As we are approaching Epiphany Sunday, we see the three kings travel in search of the newborn Jesus Christ and on the way they encounter the star that is their meant to be their guide. The author of the Gospel of Matthew tells us about the most beautiful birth and the most amazing search that has ever happened. That ONE baby boy who came and changed our world forever. And those kings got the blessing of taking the journey searching for none other than that baby, who is Christ our Lord. Read more »

Advent is almost here! Some people cringe at that thought because what that actually means to them is the concept that Christmas is right around the corner and therefore the frenzie that is the holiday season has begun. It’s not the ‘Advent’ season anymore, it’s the ‘Holiday’ season which consumes us and leads us to forget what we are truly supposed to be remembering at this time in the Church year. I’m sure it’s pretty evident what I am going to talk about today in my reflection, but I mean c’mon, sometimes, it’s the obvious that we need to be reminded of. Read more »

Mama Mia!!

Katie Lucchesi's picture

It's the month of May already! They say time flies when you're having fun, and it sure does! Can anyone tell me who we honor in the month of May? If you said the Virgin Mother Mary, you win! (what do you win? um... Mary's love for you forever?!?...sure!)

There is no one like a mother, no matter what form she comes in or whether is she biological or 'like a mother' or just another grandmother, aunt, or friend who is that motherly figure to you. This past school year I had a ministry internship in which I spent each week with women who had been in prison and were trying to get back on their feet. I worked a lot with kids of parents who were currently in prison and a few times we took a trip to Vandalia, MO for a prison visit to see their mamas! Read more »

On The Go

Katie Lucchesi's picture

I often, as all of you do I'm sure, find myself "on the go" where I am constantly running to somewhere else or to get something else accomplished. Really quickly, I wanted to share an opportunity with you for prayer, especially during this Lent.

I know that Lent has already begun, but if you're anything like me and you're prayer life is not up to par exactly, no worries! There was some wonderful  genius who created prayer just for people like you and me!

Pray-as-you-go!!! and yes, that is what it is called!
