“Today, our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has appointed me the ninth Archbishop of Saint Louis. I am blessed by this appointment and excited to come to know this local Church with all of its priests, religious, deacons, and faith filled people.

On January 11th of this year, I celebrated my 25th Anniversary as a bishop. For ten years, I was an Auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. I’ve served eleven years first as Coadjutor and then ordinate of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and since February of 2004, I have served as Bishop of Saginaw, Michigan. Read more »


Message from Pope Benedict XVI

On Sunday, April 5, Pope Benedict addressed young people from in his homily during a Palm Sunday Eucharistic celebration in Saint Peter's Square. He explained the importance of embracing the Cross, especially during this Holy Week: "without the 'yes' to the cross, without walking in communion with Christ day after day, life can have no success."

The Holy Father explained the meaning of love and the meaning of losing one's life to gain the whole world; he remarked that Christ, with His death on the cross, demonstrated once again "the fundamental law of human existence: 'Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.' 40 Days for Life Prayer Campaign Hopes to End Abortion in St. Louis

During Lent this Spring, February 25 through April 5, St. Louis will be one of 121 communities nationwide joining together to peacefully pray, fast, and work towards an end to abortion. Relying on God’s grace and the dedication and enthusiasm of many participants, St. Louis will experience and witness an incredibly powerful, coordinated pro-life prayer campaign that has proven results—40 Days for Life.

This unique pro-life campaign is built on the trust that God’s people, as individuals and societies, can be transformed by His power and grace. Throughout history God has used 40 days to bring about major transformation: from Noah in the flood to Moses on the mountain to the disciples after Christ's resurrection to our own yearly Lenten renewals. Project Life - Chance of a Life Time!

Project Life gathers teens from various backgrounds to be transformed by the Gospel call to love one another through service to those in need. Throughout the course of the week, teens come to know and recognize Jesus Christ in themselves and in the people they serve. Through spiritual programming, great music, hard work, and good times Project Life has become an awesome event that allows Christ to speak and work through them in ways they would never have imagined! 

This year, we will focus our efforts and service around St. Cecilia Parish in South City.
